Web site service is down regularly

I run a website on Windows 2000 server. The webpages are
all in asp.net. There is also a database on SQL Server
2000 on the same server. This site is the only one running
on the server.

Almost everyday, for no apparent reason, the website stops
responding. Everything seems to be fine on the server, but
from a distant computer, nothing is working. It can't load
any page, as if the server was down.

If you have any idea on what I can look for, or if there's
a tool I can use to see if the server is alright, just let
me know...

thanks,
Hugo

Do you have the latest patches and updates? A new important patch was
publicly announced yesterday. It could be infected and broadcasting out so
much that it appears that the machine can't respond to normal requests. Run
also an anti-trojan program and AV on it too to make sure.

If you look inside Services and in the IIS Properties
under the recovery tab, you will see First Failure,
Second Failure and so on. You may want to set it up so
the first failure it restarts the service, then the
second failure it restarts the server, or if you feel
that is to major of an operation have it always restart
the service, this isn't going to fix the problem totally,
but can help lower the number of times it crashes.
