Is there a way to specify what web sites a user is permitted to visit. I've
ben trying to play around wth zones with no luck so far. Any help would be
appreciated.

Hi George,

Nice to meet you!

My understanding on the issue is: you want to limit a specific website. If
I have misunderstood your concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Based on your requirement, the most efficient way to achieve the goal is to
use "Content Advisor" in Internet Explorer. You may control the limitation
of the website by the configuration in "Contents Advisory". The method is
as the following:

Launch Internet Explorer->Click Tools ->Click Internet Options->Click
Content tab->enable Settings with password

In Content Advisor, Click Approved Sites tab, in Allow this Web site,

1. You may input *.*, and click Always. (This settings means that all the
websites can be accessed)

2. You may input the specific website (just like www.domain.com or
*.domain.com), and click Never. (This settings means that specific website
cannot be accessed without password)

3. Please check the "Users can see sites that have no rating" in General
tab.

Let me provide you with some additional information:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=155609

155823 Content Advisor Warns on URLs Containing "~" in Name

Hope the information helps. If there is anything that is unclear, please
feel free to let me know.

Thanks & Regards,

Jason Tan

I tried *.* for all website and it didn't seem to work. Do you have to put
in the full name such as http://www.*.*. Because I didn't think that worked
either when I tried to deny all access.

Dear George,

Thanks for update!

Please excuse for the delay! You do not have to put in the full name such
as http://www.*.*. Please let me make some clarification for you on your
scenario. I understand that you want to deny all access except some
specific permitted websites. Now, you may follow the below steps:

1. You may input *.*, and click Never. (This settings means that all the
websites can be denied.)

2. You may input the specific website (just like www.domain.com or
*.domain.com), and click Always. (This settings means that specific website
can be accessed with password)

3. Please confirm to uncheck the "Users can see sites that have no rating"
in General tab.

I input *.* and select never and it has no effect. One can still access all
websites. On another scenario I input www.tahoo.com and a allowed site and
it hangs never loading the site. I can't figure out why.

Dear George,

Thanks for update!

I have tested the issue and it worked well on my side. Please help me know
if you uncheck the "Users can see sites that have no rating" in General
tab. If not, you still can view the websites. And I suggest you close all
the IE application and try it again. If the issue still persist, I suggest
you delete the following registry key and reset the settings.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Rating

If I specify deny all websites except for www.yahoo.com I have a problem
yahoo doesn't want to load it just hangs. I do the sam efor google and it
loads fine. Any reason why.

Dear George,

Thanks for update!

The issue seems weird. It appears that the test on my side works fine. Can
I assume that it cannot load the home page of Yahoo? Or it can load the
home page but cannot load the sub-link of the web page? I recommend you
clean the boot of Internet Explorer and shutdown all the IE application.
Then test is again.

Clean the boot of Internet Explorer
===========================================================
1. Open Internet Explorer. Click Tools -> Internet Options
2. In the General tab, please click the Settings button
3. Please click the View Files button and then, delete all files in this
fold and close it.
4. Please click the View Objects button and then, delete all files in this
fold and close it.
5. Click OK
6. Please select Security tab in the Internet Options dialog box. Click
the Default button and click Apply.
7. Please select Programs tab in the Internet Options dialog box. Click
the Reset Web Settings button and click Yes.
8. Please select Advanced tab in the Internet Options dialog box. Click
the Restore Defaults button and click the Apply button.
9. Please uncheck the "Enable third-party browser extensions (requires
restart)" check box under the Browsing item in the Advanced tab.
10. Restart your computer as required.

If there is anything that is unclear, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks & Regards,

Jason Tan

George Schneider said:
If I specify deny all websites except for www.yahoo.com I have a problem
yahoo doesn't want to load it just hangs. I do the sam efor google and it
loads fine. Any reason why.

Undo that constraint temporarily and use the Privacy Report (Alt-V,v)
to see why. Also, compare with how long it takes for the Yahoo page
to figure out what security zone it should be in. That's another symptom
of the same difference.
