I'm completing a bibliography, and it says you need the date of when you
accessed it. I know I accessed a certain web site within the last 2 weeks
because it's listed in my History, but how can I find out the exact date of
when I first went to the web site?

Assuming Windows 2000 or XP, open Windows Explorer and navigate to
C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\History. (On XP it
may be "Owner" instead of your username.) You'll need to have the option
set to display hidden files and folder, but you should always turn that on
anyway.

Expand the History folder and you'll see entries like "3 Weeks Ago", "2
Weeks Ago", "Last Week", and so on. Expand the one for the period when
you visited the site. You'll see a list of folders, each named for a site
you visited. Find the entry for the site and click on it. The right-hand
pane will list all of the pages you visited at that site along with the
date and time of your last visit.

Were the components of the pages cached and not given an expiration?
If so, you could use the TIF viewer (e.g. Alt-T,O,Alt-S,V)
then view Details (Alt-V,D) and sort by Internet Address (Alt-V,I,I).
Unfortunately, there is no way to choose a second sort key in that display
so you will have to eyeball subsort on Last Checked. E.g. the lowest
Last Checked timestamp would be the first time that you went to that site
(assuming that it wasn't so long ago that other earlier entries were flushed
to make room for newer content, etc.)

Unfortunately, the only date you can get from the History is from
the Last Accessed timestamp. What you really want is the date from
an unavailable statistic, e.g. "First Checked timestamp." Last Checked
is at least a better alternative than Last Accessed, e.g. in case you have
subsequently revisited a site using a cached item.
