Dr Zoidberg.

I may have to set up a web proxy server for one of our customers soon.

Can anyone suggest any alternatives to the microsoft ISA server and comment
on their ease of setup and use.

Cost probably isn't an issue , but if I can get something better than ISA
for less then that would be nice.

Hi,

You don't say how many users the proxy is for, but I find that Squid
works very well:

Unix - http://www.squid-cache.org
NT - http://www.serassio.it/SquidNT.htm

Note that you seem to need Windows 2000 for 2.5 STABLE4, it doesn't
work on NT4 although STABLE3 works fine. I use SquidNT for about 150
users and the machine is barely above idle most of the time.

Its also possible to get NTLM authentication working - indeed, that
what's I use every day for my users.

The squid config file is a little overwhelming at first, but in
reality all the defaults are OK and you only need to change 1-2 lines
to make it work. Note that there's no gui interface so if you want
ease of use use ISA.

Kris.
