Web page minimizing in error

I recently purchased a new hard drive and reloaded Windows XP Pro with IE6.
Since then, I'm unable to have a Reduced Web page and Document page (an
Excel spreadsheet) remain on screen together while I transpose info from the
Web page to the spreadsheet. As soon as I click into the spreadsheet, the Web
page minimizes into the lower bar next to the Start button. I have to keep
maximizing the Web page to access the info I require, which now takes far
longer to do.
I wonder if files in IE were perhaps corrupted in the Windows reloading
process or if there is some setting in IE that has somehow changed. Can
anyone help?
Thanks

Hi,
I saw the earlier post and gave it some thought, but nothing came to mind.

Some questions:
Is the XLS file open in Excel- not IE?
Can you open 2 IE windows at the same time?
Can you have an IE window and a Word window open at the same time?

Try this: From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable
third party
browser extensions." Does the problem still occur?

Thanks, "Don"
Yes, the spreadsheet has an XLS extension.
I unchecked "enable third party browser extensions" (requiring restart), but
no luck.
However, I did find that I could open a Word document and web page and work
between them, without the web page minimizing, so that was something positive.
Maybe I have a problem with Excel? No, I can't get 2 IE windows to open
simultaneously.
Also, I've only just invoked MSN to access a Net. Passport so my problem
existed before that.

Scotty,
Sorry... I lost track of this topic.

See if this standard reply for "Can't open a second IE window" helps:
From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts."

And... you have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program.

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.
