Macromedia: no not yet, but Nvu might do it someday http://www.nvu.com/

Frontpage: Yes, notpad, any program that can create html (ok, so I showed
some color :-) )
To be honest, the specific 'functions' of frontpage are yet to be cloned,
but I doubt anyone ever will.
Though you might want to take a look at freeserifs webplus
(www.freeserifsoftware.com)
or Webdwarf (http://www.virtualmechanics.com/products/dwarf/) Bot are more
like a dtp program, but have the same (very big) disadventage: the pages are
saved in a property format, not readable with an other editor.

Everyone forgets OOo. There's a really competent WYSIWYG HTML editor hidden
in there somewhere. :)

Really rival with 'em, No!

I could advice for free

Visicomedia.com (HTML 4 FREE)
A nice piece of software that I used in the old days. You will learn
about HTML, if you like it or not ;-) Die hards use this! been there,
done that...

www.notetab.com
(LIGHT) shows all possible tabs and includes ‘em with a simple click.
Very handy for rapid work like pop-up’s. But good enough to build a
complete website as well...

ACE HTML
Powerful web building tool. Many predefined dhtml & Java scripts.

1ST PAGE (evroft)
Bundles hundreds of javascripts.

For little cash there's one great soft that I use

www.netobjects.com (PAYWARE: BEST PRICE/QUALITY) is my favorite web
building tool. It offers great help to build a first decent website
and gives you great support once you become a more experienced web
builder. I advice this software! It’s not that expensive compared to
equivalent software. In tests it scores really good compared to
similar soft.

Not freeware (so yes I know it's theoretically off-topic) but it's free.

In the UK there's a full copy of Netobjects Fusion MX on the cover disk
of PC Pro July 2004

But you have to download the whole office suite of 80mb to get it...

I meant for those that already have OOo. If you don't already have OOo you
can't have anything hiding inside it, can you? :D

NonDisputandum.com:

Perhaps because it adds more than 400 new keys or so? Iirc.
(HTML-Kit 86, CSE Lite 45, Stone's Webwriter 24).

Marc B.
