Web links that open any new window fail

Peter

Following a HDD failure I have reinstalled Windows XP
professional. I have taken all the updates and am running
IE6.

The problem is that when I click on a link from a web page
that opens a new window that new window fails to open, it
just freezes. Two examples are the logon screen for
banking or even the window that opens to post this
message! (I am posting this from another PC).

Sometimes I get a message "newwindow is null or invalid
object" (or something along these lines).

Any ideas or should I just reinstall again and hope.

Thanks

Hi, I have the same problem, when a link is clicked the original screen
FREEZES and then falls to not responding, the NEW window is fine though? Have
you found a resolution to this error ? If so, can you post it here or on my
post.

"Subject: IE freezes when LINKS are clicked " Thats my post - in this section.

Thanks

Shannon

First eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.
