I have my VIO laptop Sony with winxp Pro-service Pack 2.P4 CPU 2.66GHz
with 512MB RAM. A Webcam came with it. The device manager under imaging
devices shows "Sony Visual Communication Camera PCGA-UVC11" and working
properly with device usage enabled yet neither I nor the party at the
other end of the chat (yahoo chat) sees any picture of mine. My room is
properly illuminated and this camera was working perfectly alright some
20 days back. I have not downloaded / installed any new software that
would have altered the change.
Any guidance in solving the problem would be appreciated.

This is a hardware related
problem that requires to
be addressed by the maker
of the laptop since it is a
built in device.

maybe their site will have a
faq, updated driver, patch or something..

Thanks for the response.
The webcam with it is not a built in device. I could not so far address
this problem with the maker of the laptop. I am looking for the url for
that.

could be a number of things
and there is no way for anyone
to know what the problem could be.

the only alternative you have is to
simply use the process of elimination.

firstly, be sure you have ample memory
so disable all your startups temporarily.

secondly, uninstall the cam software
then reboot
then use a registry cleaner
like Eusing
then reboot again.

then simply plug the cam into the
pc and see if windows can initiate
it.

if not, then install the software for
the cam and see if this helps.

if making more resources available
to the cam and reinstalling the software
that came with it doesn't help, then
maybe an update from microsoft made
the cam driver incompatiable.

however, another cause could
be simply that the cam is physically
dysfunctional or a bad cable or not
enought power via the usb.

the website to the cam may have
updates, downloads or a customer
service link.

unfortunately, your question as simple
as it may be, has no easy solution...
