Web cam use in Messenger

Why is it that if I invite someone for a video chat, I
can see them but they can't see me. I have my webcam
installed properly and it works in other programs.
 
Have they got video enabled at their end, in Messenger ? get them to check
their settings from the MSN Messenger Tools > Web Camera Settings and also
Tools > Audio /Video settings

Can they hear you ?
