Wearing out Compact-Flash cards

I remember reading somewhere on the web a warning saying that there is a
limited number of times you can write to a compact flash card and that you
should be careful no to over do it or you would damage the card.

Could anyone out there share his or her experience concerning this issue? Is
it safe to writhe to a Compact Flash card a couple of hundred of time
without having to worry about wearing it out?

Thank you.

Hi Rene,

Flash memory usually has limitation of 1000 to 10000 erase write cycles per
block.
EEPROM memory above 1000000 erase write cycles per byte.

And you should check in datasheet for your CF model to see what manufacturer
says about that particular model.

I asked this specific question to an applications engineer from SanDisk. He
says their number for the 256 MB CF is 300,000. Also, consider that the
controller provides "wear leveling" which spreads the data written around so
the same cells don't get written continuously. So, a "couple of hundred" is
no biggie.
