people, since the RTM is available (to some, anyway), its silly to post
problems youre having with beta versions. either get your hands on the RTM
or wait til it goes retail since this will solve 99% of your beta issues

That's just ignorant.

The beta doesn't expire until June 1, 2007. If folks have
a question and I can answer it, I will.

my point, is that why waste time trying to fix your beta issues when the
retail RTM will be available and will fix your problems? will you also
answer my 98 questions, dumbass?

pointing out a fact isnt ignorant.

If the final version solves 99% of our beta issues there will still be the
1% beta issues left, thus people should have the right to post questions
about the 1% issues ???

They have no way of knowing if it is just a beta issue
unless they ask. A lot of bugs are still present in RTM,
and using the RTM is no guarantee that their particular
problem has been fixed. It may not even be strictly an
OS problem, they just need some guidance on what's
new/changed in Vista that might help resolve their problem.

Perhaps, when/if a trial download becomes available,
then I might suggest that route to someone still testing
a beta OS. Some folks want to have a go at before they
make up their minds. I'm not going to tell them to go buy
Vista just to test it, dufus.

I think if you need help with Win98, you are the dumbass.
But, if you'd like, you can email and I will try to help you
or point you in the right direction. Give me a few minutes
and I'll put Win98 SE on a virtual machine.

-Michael

what do you tell people that say theyre having an issue with their mouse in
windows me? personally i laugh and tell them to upgrade... and so do you.
thats my point. everyone, including the person with the issue is wasting
their time. and what if it not a beta issue? then theyll have to deal with
it AGAIN when they install the rtm... see my point now?

Actually Microsoft is providing "free" telephone support for BETA 2, RC1 and
RC2, so persons running those builds are considered relevant, and updates
will be available to them until it expires. So as Michael said, if someone
has a problem on any build on beta 2 on up, I will gladly try to answer it.

I guess you're running RTM then?

This is a public Vista support group. RC1 is Vista. RC1 users are directed
to this newsgroup (and others) from their Help and Support Center.

If you don't want to deal with RC1 questions, don't bother with the
postings.

If Windows ME (which I like to call Wintendo) works for the poster why is he
wasting anyone's time? How do you feel when Mac fans answer your Vista
questions with "get a Mac"?

I see more questions from RC1 users about how to get along with Vista than I
do complaints about bugs. If RC1 is all a user has, what else can they use
to learn about Vista?

What questions do you still have about Windows 98?

What fact are you pointing out?

I wish, Troy, that were true. I don't find RTM to be resolving 99% of the
Beta issues a lot of us bugged--not even in the ball park of that.

You mean for them to get RTM and bug it don't you?

CH

Excellent point. I think your Win Mail/Transparency check issue is a good
example of one of hundreds of problems that haven't been fixed. After using
OE for the newsgroup on XP for a couple days, I found myself agreeing with
your observation all the way. I know that the number of messages is a
component of the equation but seeing the number of people on that thread
having similar problems, and noting the contrast myself between Win Mail
with transparency checked and OE with no option to do so, I think you have a
very legitimate bug there--and to stick back with this thread make a great
point.

And as Colin said, RC1 is the only download available right now for a lot of
people and although there have been many things fixed since RC1 relesed to
TBT 9/1/06, I still think fundamentally if you don't have a route to RTM
until 28 days or so from now, it is a very useful way to introduce yourself
to Vista and you can grasp far and away most of its principles with it.

yes sorry!

The betas are good to May 1 , 2007

Troy;
"personally i laugh and tell them to upgrade... and so do you."
I don't. How do you know Nicholas does.
Just because you laugh at people, do not assume all others do.

No, perhaps you are wasting your time, but that is all.
If they still have a Windows ME computer that does the job the way it need,
there is no reason to upgrade.
Perhaps you laugh, many will save their limited resources for important
things.
Perhaps you have unlimited resources to upgrade at will.
Perhaps you have no programs that require a specific OS
Perhaps you...
Etc.

As for the example with RTM and them needing to deal with the issue again.
You seem to ignore the fact that if it is the same issue, the same solution
may work.

My guess is you are posting using RTM and base your assumptions on that
small fact.
What is wrong with attempting to solve future problems now?
Some may be fixed in RTM while others may not.
If the question is not asked, they have simply delayed their solution when
RTM is installed and the same issue is discovered.

Apparently you have RTM and can move on, others do not and need to work with
what they have.
Your desire to "laugh" a them is really your own limitation and is not
useful here.
In fact it may be the opposite since they have a legitimate purpose in
asking.
