The picture in the link, was taken with a robotic camera at 1,474 megapixel. (295 times the standard 5 megapixel camera.)

Pick a face in the crowd and zoom in... it's amazing stuff.
You can even identify the speaker on the podium!

Here

That's incredible, TC. The difference between min and max is astounding.

Better be careful what I'm doing. ;)

Those gigapan photos are incredible, I'm looking forward to when we can buy a camera that does this :D

Can't zoom in on me slow connection but I bet it looks great.

Why are they not installed in every football ground over here. Hooliganism would drop to zero.

:D

Abarbarian - specially for you :) - I zoomed-in on the man on the podium and as you can see, President Obama came up quite clearly. Amazing isn't it.

Well as a matter of fact... you can, for a cool $379 to $449 - which I suppose isn't all that bad, considering the technology. Er... don't think I'll be getting one just yet though ;)

Edit - woops! I think that might not include the actual camera! Just the robotic mount.:o lol.

They probably are using those cameras in the football stadiums.

Football violence has been on the decrease as police have identified ringleaders, groups and individuals and banned them from relevant transport and grounds.

How often do you read about football violence now compared to 1960 to 1995? Not so often is the answer.

Those cameras are also used to read vehicle number plates within London's congestion charge area, bus lanes and other locations.

Hi Taffy,

We had that on an email a couple of weeks ago and i never thought of posting it. Apart from Obama you can focus on everyone, including the feds on the roofs way off in the back ground....i have to say i think that Privacy is fast becoming a thing of the past...Google earth, cameras everywhere, phone taps and i think in the states they can just take your pc or whatever type of device you happen to have and peruse through your stuff.
Its a great post. I bet everybody's checking out them gigapans.
Zzzzz
