I have the task of imaging about 24 Dell Latitude D630C's and 10 Dell XT's.
Both these models come with an OEM Dell utility partion. Problem is, WDS does
not recognize this partion and upon reboot, I receive the dreaded HAL error.
On one D630C, I blew away the utility partion and the WDS image process works
just fine. Unfortunately, my client wants the utility partion to remain.
Is there any work around solution to this problem?

Thanks!

The way around this problem is to convince the client to dispense with the
utility partition. It's outmoded by the time the system has been delivered to
the customer. An up-to-date boot CD / DVD (depending upon the system) is a
better choice for the supposed "functionality" provided by that partition.

I can't tell you how many times my people have heard from Dell support, "Oh,
don't use the utilities on the partition. They're old versions. Just download
the .iso for the latest boot disc, and us it!"

Of course I get to make the rules here. You have to abide by your client's
wishes. I will pray for you.

;)

Thanks!
I concurr.
I need this ammunition. There is only one party protesting the removal of
the utility partion.
