Hi
I have new HDD WDC WD800JB 80GB ATA 100. BIOS recognize HDD as ATA 100. This
HDD doesn't work in Windows XP as ATA 100. My IDE cables is 80 pin (100%
good). WindowsXP install this HDD Multi_word DMA 2. I uninstall my
controller IDE and reboot system, Windows install from scratch controller
IDE and set HDD is Multi-Word DMA 2. I install new Via4in without
effect.Install VIA IDE Miniport Driver. When I set Ultra Dma mode 5 and save
and reboot system, Windows Xp set my HDD is Multi-word DMA 2. When I set in
register mode Ultra Dma 5, and reboot Xp set this HDDD as MUlti-word DMA 2.
When I install in my system HDD Seagate Barracuda 80Gb XP set this HDD as
Ultra Mode 5 (well).
My hardware:
motherboard DFI AD-70SC (KT 266A with new BIOS)
CPU Athlon XP 1800+
memory 2x256MB PC2100
VGA Radeon 9100 Sapphire 64MB DDR
Primary Master:WDC WD800JB 80Gb ATA 100
Secondary Master:CD-ROM LG 40x
Creative Sound Blaster 128PCI
Power_Supply=360W Chieftec
Please HELP ME. Sorry for my english.

What's happened is XP has flagged that drive as a problem before you got the
4in1 drivers loaded. (More Via fun!) Now anytime you put that drive in the
system, XP defaults it to the slow speed since it saw problems with it
before the via drivers were installed. If you had the seagate drive in the
system when XP was loaded without the Via drivers, it would be the one with
this issue!

Seems like I read where you have to edit registry or remove/edit a file
somewhere to get this resolved? Now that you have installed the via driver,
try removing the IDE controller and let windows reinstall them. My neighbor
went through this with his via system and this is just one more reason I'll
NEVER use via boards again. Good luck and hope this points you in the right
direction.
