I had a two year old E-Machine that had a power supply failure due t
power flucuations. I replaced the power supply and the machine woul
still not operate. I bought a new PC and tried to use the old WD800E
drive as a slave. No matter how I set the jumpers the new PC would no
boot whenever I had the old drive attached to the ribbon cable.
I think the drive is electonically shorted since whenever I appl
power to the PC, the vent fans run without even pressing the o
button. Also, I can not shut the PC off with the on/off button
Does anyone know of a site or business where I can buy the circui
board for this drive. I believe the media and the data are ok and d
not want to spend a lot of money at a data recovery house
The complete model number is Western Digital WD800EB-00DJf0 dated 2

Sounds more like your mainboard is fried. The drives do not (usually)
influence the on/off button.

Try Froogle - I found the last hdd I needed there in 15 minutes.
Watch the price range.

Good luck!

Hard to explain why he only sees the effect with that
drive plugged in tho, if he has stated that accurately.
Hard to see how a motherboard fault could do that,
and its a new system too.
