I have WD set to scan my computer automatically. It is set to scan daily.
It does not do this. It will only scan when activate a scan manually. What
gives?

Hello jwaltz,
Scheduled scans are done via the Windows Scheduled tasks facility. Go to
Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Scheduled tasks.

In the menu at the top, choose Advanced, View hidden tasks and Notify me of
missed tasks.

You should see an entry for MP Scheduled Scan. If you right click this
entry, and choose to run it--what happens?

For the benefit of the community reading this post, please rate the pºst.

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Engel,
I followed your instructions. There were not any scheduled tasks listed.
On windows 2000, I didn't have an option to view hidden tasks. I did view
the log and saw that "MP" was running daily. Unfortunately it was starting
and stopping again after as little as 20 seconds, and wasn't able to complete
the scan. Any idea what the problem could be? It works fine when I run a
scan manually.
Thanks,
jwaltz

Hi jwaltz,

In W 2000, WD is been having problems, the team know about it and they are
working, I hope pretty soon come with the rigth solution, in the mean time
you have to run WD manual.

Good luck.

Thanks.

I followed the instructions as per your advice to Jwaltz, I went to the
events schedule looked into hidden tasks I right clicked MP scheduled Scan
and chose run. What I now get is a pop up display mesaage everytime I log on
saying one of your scheduled run tasks did not run etc etc etc . How do I
fix this and more importantly how do I fix auto scan for WD. Are Microsoft
aware of the problem?? I have Windows XP Pro if that helps!

Can you help please Engel

Hi badru,

To remove the pop up, is easy.

Go to Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Scheduled tasks.
In the menu at the top, choose Advanced, View hidden tasks and UNCHECK
Notify me of missed tasks.

Yes, the tean is aware of the problem with the schedule.

Stick with the other post.

Good luck

Try changing the task's "run as" account to your administrator account or
another local account with admin rights.

The NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM account is what is at issue here.

From what I've seen that account works more often if you are on a domain and
doesn't like to work if you are in a workgroup (or stand alone)

Artlav is correct, its the "run as" thats important and mainly the password
entry for your admin user.

I followed the instructions here about getting the scheduled task set up in
windows (I run xp pro) and when I "unhid" the tasks there it was. When I
tried to run it (right-click run) it returned an error saying it could not
start (on the task line).

As soon as I right-click->properties and set my password (my user was
already there and correct), then re ran the task it started and off it went.

When it finished, I check in WD and sure enough it shows as run today at the
time manually started and the windows task now has itself set to run the next
day at the time I have set for daily scans in WD.

Good job guys! This was annoying as $#%# and it would be nice if MS issued
the same workaround as listed here in their knowledge base!

Cheers
Jangles
