Just became available at Microsoft updates
WD version 1.1.1347
Engine version 1.1.1441.0
Definition version 1.14.1475.5

Installed first time.

Great - installed first time here too. Four times in a row without a
problem now. I think MS has it in control.

First successful installation for a very long time - with Autoupdater.
I gotta admit though ony WinDef service has been running at the time of
installation - the application itself HAS NOT.

Did't move a finger to update.

What makes you feel that "the application itself has not......?"

Is msascui.exe also running at startup? I think I can recall going through
this with another poster--(was it you?)--I'd thought that in the end we got
it fixed. It is possible that an uninstall and subsequent reinstall was
involved, although I'd try control panel, add or remove programs, Windows
Defender, change, update first.

Not so loud please otherwise MS will start charging us for this
product!! Anything that brings in revenue will do very nicely indeed!

hello Bill,
Exactly. msascui.exe was NOR runnin', because I Use WDef as an on-demand
scanner. I only turn on Win Def Service (MSPeng)whe update or scan.
I don't use it for realtime -protection, becuse when last time I had been
running it for a day, I got 8 neat Restore points in turn:(
It's clear 2 me, that Restore Points-bug has indeed NOT been solved.
Until that I only use it as mentioned above.
I trust DropMy Rights, IE-Spyad, Spywareblaster, Hosts files , Outpost 3.51
and other precautionary measures.
I'm glad though, that the other serious bug (update dfinitions) seem to come
to a successful end!
Best regards:
Ivan

Ok - thanks. As far as I am aware, the bug which creates excessive numbers
of restore points on some machines is not fixed.
