We need to solve the underlying issue with Windows Update--because that
is
the mechanism that Windows Defender uses to acquire signature updates.
I have a "prescription" for your symptom, but I don't think it fixes your
underlying issue--so I'm not sure it'll do much for you. It may be worth
trying, however:
I'll leave the original quoted message in the cut and paste so you can
see
whether it seems like the same error message you are seeing:

Andre,
Can you try this?
1) Uninstall WD thru Add and Remove Programs
2) Launch cmd prompt
3) MsiExec.exe /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}
4) Delete all contents of Directory of C:\Documents and
Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Definition Updates
5) Reinstall WD
Let me know if that works for you.

Upgraded from Antispy yesterday but WDB2 will not update. The error
relates
to a wrong diskette in the drive (don't have a floppy). Tried most of
the
suggestons so far but no fix yet. I have similar problems on this
machine
with Windows Update and invariably need to do manual updates. Does the
WD
service operate the same way?
