I was just about to order a pair of WD360GD for RAID 0, when I saw
some retailers are starting to ship the WD740GD. My question is,
would there be any performance advantage to running the WD360GD pair
over a single WD740GD?

Thanks,
John

May depend on the stripe size and the size of your files.
The WD740 is about 25% faster than the WD360.
The WD740 also has smaller platters and better seektimes.

Wow, I knew the WD740 was faster than the WD360, but if it's 25% faster I'll
hold out for it. Right now, I can buy two WD360's for $230 shipped, vs.
$270 for a WD740. I expect the price to drop quickly after availability
gets broader.

Thanks for the info!

It would be a natural choice to bring out the WD740 in single platter
form.

Wouldn't WD40 be a better choice for this application?
