WD on Windows startup

Since a recent update I have noticed that WD icon does not appear in the
system tray on maybe 3 out of 5 startups. I have changed no options in WD
configs, all are set on, WD software explorer says the start up value (I
assume in the registry) has a '-hide' parameter, not of my setting. I get
update 'ballons' on system/program changes so I assume that WD is always on.
Anybody experiencing similar ?
Any views/comments ?

Windows XP has a tendency (its a bug) to not always load icons of started
programs in the system tray. This can be for several reasons, but the
commonest fix is to wait about a minute after the 'logon' screen appears
before actually logging on in XP. Somehow, that lets the program finish
something in the background so it can pay full attention to loading things
in the system tray correctly.

Thanks for your interest. For reasons other than the WD icon issue I had
recently pruned down my start up list ('cos of the time it took). Now looking
at sequencing or 'pausing' items in attempt to improve start up time. However
I have never had non-appearing icons before and now its always/only the WD
icon that fails, so I guess I had arrived (jumped?) at the conclusion that it
was WD specific.
I will check the refs. you gave
