replying to my own self here!
'cause i've solved my own problem!!
Error: 0x800106ba: WD failed to intialize
for 32-bit Vista:
go to "start>control panel>administrative tools>services" scroll down and
locate WD, click once on it and then click start on the left pane, kinda
looks like a 'hyperlinked' start underlined and in blue.
then find and this time double-click (that's if the start command didn't
already open it up) on WD in the listings and VOILA~~ you've opened WD (i
wasn't able to even do this as this error code kept popping up)
when the "windows defender properties (local computer)" comes up, check the
"service status" area in the lower section of the window. if WD is running,
you'll have the "stop" button illuminated and ready to use. on the other
hand, if WD is not running you should see the "start" button is highlighted
and clickable.
after this, i recommend that you restart.
after restart, you'll likely get the "windows blocked some startup programs"
message. right-click on the 'startup programs' icon on the bottom-left corner
of the taskbar, then click 'open with system utilities' (i don't remember the
exact words, but look for system utilities), and then that should give you a
"system configuration" dialog-box telling you that 'you have made changes to
the way windows starts'. check the box reading : "don't show this message or
start system config. when windows starts".
and that should be the end of your problems hopefully!!
