Thank you CE,

AutoUpdater working fine. I get the same (KB 892519) on Southern California.

What I liked was that when I read that, and open the Windows Defender
UI--there it was--already updated, with no action required on my part.

What do you have to do to get the new version / update? When I check for
updates, I get an information message that no new updates are available. My
WD version is showing 1.0.0.0.

Thanks,

If you go to Help, About, and ask it to check for updates, do you get an
error message?

You may also be able to see a system eventlog message with source WinDefend.

Is this a managed network? How are Microsoft Security patches distributed?

I am not clear where you see the Defender definition update 1.13.1276.3 that
is now available on windows update. I have automatic updates turned off. I
am running windows xp professional.

I see it at the bottom of the home page of Windows Defender. Presumably it
got there via AutoUpdate.

So--are you saying that you have an older version listed at the bottom of
Windows Defender's home page, and that if you go to Windows Update and check
for available updates, the Windows Defender update is not listed.

I'll admit that every machine I work with is using Microsoft Update, but the
Microsoft staff posting here have stated that the updates are available via
Windows Update.
