WD 80 gig reliable????

I'm looking at a WD model WD800JBRTL. I've been using Maxtors the
last few years with no problems. WD offers better pricing right now.
Anything inherently wrong with these drives?

MY WD80JB has been rock solid for me. My 80gb Maxtor got one bad
cluster after only one month of use.

I haven't been keeping up with hd's lately and just wanted to make
sure I wasn't getting a complete dud. After reading these forums you
can see that it's not so much the brand but if you are lucky enough to
get a good drive.

One more question: doen't the "JB" in the serial number indicate the
WD Special Edition? If so, what does that get you?

8 MB cache and a 3 year warranty.

3 year warranty was part of the deal. Now you get 1 year, and can opt for 3
year warranty by paying for it. Think its 15 bucks.

Nothing but praise for the two I own. One is primary use for OSes, and
other stuff. Other is backup drive.

Grain of salt though. All HD mfrs make lemons once in awhile even if you
have good running history of same model.
