Hi,

I didn'y know that WD 1593 was no longer supported for Win2K machines, and I
uninstalled my old version and couldn't install the new one. Is there a way
to get the old version of Installer, and if so will 1593 signature updates
work on the old versions?

Thanks,
Arno DS

Hi Arno;
I had a thread conversation with Vince in this forum about two weeks ago
which convinced me that updates to both beta and final definitions are the
same, so you should be fine from that perspective. What you need is the
old Beta installation file for build 1347, just be aware that the 1347
version is time-bombed to expire at the end of December we believe (??), so
now you can only get the Beta installation download at non-Microsoft sites
like this:

You should be either seriously looking for an alternative Anti-Spyware, or
upgrading your OS at this point to beat the December deadline...

Just as an aside--which may not help folks in this thread:

Microsoft Forefront Client Security, which is designed for managed
corporate networks, does cover Windows 2000.

So--if you have a managed network with large numbers of Windows 2000
desktops still, Microsoft does have a product to provide protection.

Public beta is downloadable now.

Remarkable, really. This attitude to Win2K motivated me to upgrade
my AVG antivirus to include the anti-malware component. I found it
was so simple and bug-free in comparison to Defender that I then
converted all my XP machines to it.

Similarly, as Vista won't run on Win2K, I've moved every machine to
Firefox despite only having one Win2K machine.

I know Bill doesn't care about a small network like mine, but there
may be more of me out there...
