Morning All

I want to talk to you all today about Boinc

despite my initial feelings towards Boinc it has become obvious that it really does improve your points returned to WCG ... now, I personally still do not like it as a program, but I use it on all my PCs ... Ady has done an excellent job researching its benefits and more importantly, how to best install it on your system ... it isn't that hard, just sounds awkward ... even WCG are supporting its installation and have made it easier to install.

let me make this clear, I ain't twisting anybody's arms here
The PCReview Crew II are very proud of its crunchers ... and that is you
so if you do not feel up to installing Boinc, fine by us, no problem, it is the taking part we appreciate the most

I am Captain, all that really means is, I set the name up ... I don't have any 'powers' over the team, but I have tried my best to keep you informed and encourage you at every opportunity and to try and pick you up when your feeling down ... I coherst "the gang of four + 1" into appointing Ady & V_R to modmanship, selfishly & respectfully, to give me a hand in running Crunchers Corner ... I didn't need to, they were doing an admiral job enyway ... but I felt some reward was way overdue in thanking them for their help. I hope also that Ian will grant them more globleable powers over other aspects of PCReview.

OK, so if you are interested, or are having a problem with Boinc, then please see Ady for help and advice ... hell the man will even giving you his phone number and personally talk you through any difficulties what can I say on that ... thanks Ady.

Alright, waffle over, here are the stats for today.

- great returns again :thumb:

Thanks for the stats and kind words Mucks :D

You have made some very valid points about Boinc, it is very easy to set up on a Windows machine, and I would urge everyone still running the WCG UD Agent to go over to it ASAP regardless of CPU size.

I am always willing to help - and as Mucks has said, if you PM me I will give you a phone number so we can sit 'together' at the PC and install it correctly :thumb: (those without PM access, I can email you if you want...)

And remember, you will get even better returns if you add the Boinc enhancement - I can help you install that too ;)

PLEASE - can everyone not yet on Boinc, go over to the thread HERE and give it some serious consideration :thumb:

:)

thanks again for the stats mucks:D wow it is interesting i only had the pc turned on for one day and i returned 3000 points on boinc doesnt it normally take a little while to get going again due to pending validations??

Thers so many people running it now, that they seem to be getting quicker as the other 3 results in 'quorum' are being returned faster :thumb:

Thers so many people running it now,
Now is that good or bad for points? that so many people are running it because isnt it true if you have a really slow computer in the quorum as a really fast (citechs) it will decrease the points granted?

Have a quick look over at the thread HERE Chelsea - it isn't bad, you will always get more points with Boinc....;)

Whilst Boinc seems to be the theme of the day - I thought I would share with you all the fact that I am currently 51st out of 10,782 in the World for Boinc users at the WCG project.

I should make the Top 50 over the next few days

:D

*Sorry for blowing my own trumpet, but I'm well chuffed!! :p

No! I hope its a few good years before I start that malarky ... I actually did get up early this morning though ... have a game to play, and I'm going to spend most of the day playing it too. :p

Thanks for the stats Mucks - you summed it up perfectly :thumb:

I'll have to see if I can get one of the sponsors to get us some PCR mousemats or T-Shirts for the crunchers :D

Good show Ady :D You and V_R are doing a cracking job

New Boinc Sticky's...

Ok Team - I have to confess to being a bit slack around here lately in getting round to producing an 'easy guide to Boinc' :o

As more and more folks are coming over and need help setting up - what I intend to do over the next week or so (work permitting!) is produce a series of Sticky's at Crunchers Corner split up into easy to understand 'read only' (locked) step-by-step guides on installing Boinc etc.

Here are the first I will be producing, if anyone has any other requests, please let me know:

Installing Boinc on Windows
Boinc Manager Settings
Boinc Default Profile Settings
Installing Boinc Tweaks
Known Boinc Issues

After these guides are posted, I intend to un-sticky and close the current 'Boinc and Other Tweaks Thread' as it has become too large and unweildy.

Mucks - perhaps you can advise me if this sounds OK?

Ady :)

Hey! be my guest ... sounds absolutely cracking to me ... :thumb:

I'd also like to remind Ian that we could do with a sub-forum here ... I personally don't like them as I get confused quite easy enough ... but I think it would be a good idea here.

Sticking all the stickies in the sub-forum, I think, would then make it easier to find stuff. :)

Ah of course - I'll do that now! I forgot about that last week!

:D congratulations Ady:thumb: with the amount of work you put in here you've certainly got every right to be chuffed & then some. Well done & thank you for all of the extra work you do & the help that you give people here. cheers.

& mucks... if you haven't got at least the tiniest bit of a hangover from your birthday then you obviously weren't hanging out at the PC review pub now were you:p

Cheers Mucks, and some wise words there. :thumb:

Great work team!
