My system is running very slow, It take about 45 minutes
to boot up. I am getting the following error when I try to
run the knowledge base article 319114 "Framedyn.dll was
not found". This was the first error message I received:
c:\windows\system32\wbem is not available. I/O error

Can anyone help?

Are you able to browse that folder (eg c:\windows\system32\wbem)?. You may
need to be logged in as admin.

It might be worth running a program to scan your drive if it's an I/O error.

Colin,

No, I am not able to access the folder at all as it comes
back with an I/O error. I am logged on as administrator.

Can you recommend a program to scan for I/O errors

I'm thinking that this might be a partial hard drive failure. In which case
backup all your data before you do anything else.

What exactly does the I/O error message say? Try to browse that folder
again and note the time. Then take a look in the system event log using
Event Viewer. Look for an error around the time you noted. Double click on
the first error around that time. This will display more info about the
error and sometimes a link to a knowledge base article. There is also a
button you can click to copy the error to the clipboard so you can pase it
here.

To scan the drive try CHKDSK See help and support for how to use this. It's
only possible to use this program to scan drive C: on a restart but CHKDSK
will prompt you to do this. Its will say something like "can't do that now,
Would you like to schedule a scan on the next restart?"

I strongly recommend you backup any data first because if chkdsk starts
reparing defects and finds thousands it may have a hard time reparing your
drive and leave it unusable - That's not chkdsk's fault - if your drive is
going bad then it's going bad! See note about backing up data first!
