I linked a wav file to my presentation and it works fine
the first time I launch it. However, if I stop the slide
show and restart it, the wv file will not play. I tried
the work arounds in article 832039 but they did not work.
Can anyone help????

It depends on the steps you take to "stop" and then "restart" the presentation.
Do you mean that you press Escape to fully exit the presentation? Or do you
click on a link to "End Show"? Or are you really pausing the presentation,
doing something else, and then returning? Please give us as much detail as
needed, including the version of PowerPoint that you are using.

I am using ppt 2003 with windows 2000 SP4. I am using the
esc button to exit the slide show. It seems like the the
program does not see the wav file after I press esc, then
select View Slide Show again.

Have you applied Service Pack 1 to Office 2003? Was this presentation created
in an earlier version of PowerPoint?

I ran Office Updates and it tells me I do not need any.

The presentation was created in an earlier version but I
have since done a save as with a different name, and saved
it as a "Powerpoint 97-2003& 95 Presentation". I even
added copy to the "Notes" page and saved it as per the
workaround in article #832039.

Without really understanding what might have occurred, here's what I would
recommend. Just open PowerPoint and open the presentation. Delete the sound
file and then reinsert it. See if that corrects the problem. Let us know.

I just deleted the wav file from the ppt and re-inserted
it again. The problem is still there. I have other wav
files attached to this ppt and they all play fine except
the first wav file. When I select the "play" button in
ppt, it plays the wav file. When I select the "view slide
show" it will not play the wav file.

What are the Custom Animation settings for the file? Right click the sound icon
and select Custom Animation. In the Custom Animation task pane double click the
media object. What are the Timing settings (Start and Delay)? What are the
Effect settings?

That was the problem!!! The wav file was linked to the
slide transition and not the graphic I wanted it to start
with.

Thanks for your help!!!!!!

I'm glad you got it worked out.
