I don't have a sound card ! Any way to get a beep or the old DOS tones
out of the PC's speaker when your alarm only allows .wav ?
I'm alarmed... but don't know it !!!!

Not freeware. Do a Google search to locate SPKQQ.ZIP . Requires Windows
but you don't need a soundcard.

Bottom of this page, Microsoft driver for Win9x
http://download.microsoft.com/download/win98/Utility/1/W9X/EN-US/Speak.exe
Checked, it IS alive

It is very limited, cannot use with Media player, but can play WAV
through sound recorder and also supports most other software for audio
alerts.

Be aware that the sytem grinds to a halt whil playing - leaving
interrupts enabled may help to avoid screwing up, but can make the
sound a bit clicky.

Seems like I tried that one a few years ago and it didn't work? I'll
check it out again.
I just had a thought! <g> I wonder if you can change the .wav file
association to call speak.exe?? I'd like to have the pc speaker beep maybe
three times...

It's a self extractor, with the Speaker driver in it, and an INF to
install with.

I remember using it in Win3.1, with limited success - the PC Speaker
must be VERY loud normally, to get results at any significant volume
without massive distortion (and it must be a REAL speaker, not a
pipsqueak onboard thingy.

The line of least resistance would be to add a soundcard and speakers,
even a 5 1/4" bay speaker unit if you don't want anything outside the
case.
