Waterproof Ink for CDR Inkjet Printing?

I just bought an Epson Stylus Photo 900 printer, which can print
directly onto inkjet-printable CDs/DVDs. And I got some Verbatim
inkjet-printable CDRs. It all works great and looks great -- until
you touch the printed area (especially with damp fingertips) -- then
the print smudges. This is even after allowing the ink to dry for 24
hours. Yikes! Geez, this was the whole reason I bought the printer.

Is there some sort of waterproof ink I should be using (instead of the
factory-supplied cartridges)?

Any help much appreciated.

That's a shame My Canon does not do that! Me thinks you should have got a

I am sorry that I don't follow what you're saying. I don't think there are
any Canon printers can print on CD/DVD's. I was thinking of getting an Epson
960 for CD printing, but thanks for reminding me about the worry of ink
smearing, now I think it's not a great idea. I think Alps ought to continue
their dry ink printer and release one with a CD tray!

It looks like the latest Canon's will handle CDs in a special tray,
but that option is not available in the USA.

Hairspray on DVD-R? I am not sure it'd good for DVD players in the the long
run.

2 questions:

Anyone know a UK or other company that will export one of CD-printing Canons
to the US? (But then you would lose the warranty!)

Any problems with the ink flaking off the CD and interfering with the laser
or its servos?

I don't think the ink will flake off the DVD disc's as there just like the
real thing...
As long as you buy the Printable disc's they should be fine.. and Yes The
Canon i865 is a very nice printer the results are superb..
