I have just done a clean install of 5600. I allowed the updates to be
downloaded and installed one at a time and everything was fine until I got
to the optional RC 1 update (925028). After I downloaded and installed that
update I restarted. For the last 30 minutes the computer has been sitting
on a Logging Off screen with some occasional hard drive activity.

First, I would warn about installing the update for now. Secondly, since
the computer is still trying to log off, are there any suggestions about how
to recover without destroying the install. Should I just use the reset
button, the power button, or what would be the safest.

At this point you have no other option than a hard reset, doesn't matter if
you do it via the reset or power button, you accomplish basically the same
task as far as the windows load is concerned. What ever happens to it by
hitting the reset will happen by powering it off with the power button.

I did the hard reset and it seemed to come up OK. I will be exploring to
see if anything changed, but the event log states:

"Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of setting package
KB925028 (Update) into Staging (Staging) state."

The update is for selecting text in Word 2003, which I don't use, but maybe
someone else does.
