The first version did have any issues that I saw...But this one!!!! It wont
update, it tells me that definition haven't been up dated in 83 days, when it
updated a week ago. Just take a look at all the posting here. A simple
uninstall/reinstall wont even fix the isuues. Why Cant they bring back the
older version until they get ALL the bugs out of this Beta 2?

By using a beta YOU are helping debug the program. YOU decided to do this
when you loaded it on your system! If you no longer want to work with the
beta program, please remove it from your computer.

All of these problems "are" seen by the development team.

Keep posting your problems. The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

I know the deal with Bets versions, But the real question is Security...I
feel that the first version didn't have this volume of issue, it must have
protected us more than this second version, am I right?

I've tried to do as the "Resolution" said clicking on run and typing Msiexec
/x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C} then click OK. I just get a error
message saying " This package could not be opened...verify that this is a
valid Windows Installer patch package" with the OK button that when clicked
the error message disappers. And no changes to Defender!

In general, if that KB (KB 915105) procedure fails with an error message, the
next thing to try is the Windows Installer cleanup tool:
Windows Installer cleanup tool: read the info carefully before using:

Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is available
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803

Run CCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com
http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=1504
Note, uncheck Yahoos toolbar during install.
Open Ccleaner and start the cleaning, press "Windows" "Aplications" and "Run
Cleaner" from the menu choose 'Issues' and then press scan for issues, Repair
any fºun

Start all over again.
I'd recommend re-downloading, and saving to a known location--like the
desktop.
After the download is complete, disable real-time protection by your
antivirus for long enough to do the installation.
I hope this post is helpful, let us know how it works ºut.

OK Engel. I followed all your instructions and FINALLY Defender is updated
and running!! Thank you! For all who read this, if your having the same issue
this is the remedy...Engel is right about the cleanup tool, you can do some
damage-just remove Defender and the signature only!

My thoughts on WD is it is a very different program from the Giant
MSAntispyware program initially released as Beta1 and tested over the last 12
months. You don't see "Giant" in the registry or Antispyware either. I think
it is a completely different program rewritten by MS and this is the first
iteration we are seeing (Beta 1 WD). The problems we are identifying now are
much different from last year.

It may also be one of the reasons Vista has been delayed, in that WD is
supposed to be incorporated in the new OS, and Defender is a long way from
being complete, secure, and bug free.

I think we are all for better security and a Secure OS, and are wiling to
point out the problems. Hope MS is listening to us.
