For those who remember my mate who borrowed my 9800pro and then blah blah
blah.. well he told me this morning that someone wants to sell hom a 9700XT
for NZ$150 (US$80). I had a look on toms hardware and ati.com and no
mention of a 9700XT. Did one exist? It could be a 9800XT or a 9600XT and
he just got the name wrong. If one did exist, I assume it is realitive to
the 9700 as the 9800XT is to the 9800?

As I thought. Now the real question is what card is this guy trying to pass
off. a 9600XT would be alright second hand at that price I surpose. They
still sell for NZ$400 here new. If it is a 9800XT then it will certainly be
a bargin.

No such thing as a 9700XT. Just straight 9700, 9700Pro, 9700 Pro AIW cards.
All are excellent cards. And seeing how a used 9700 Pro typically goes for
$300 to $325NZ on Ebay it's doubtful it's that.

Yeah. I been looking around at what they are going for. I am going to
check the card out for myself before my mate buys it tonight to find out
exactly what this guy is selling. My mate is sure he was told it was a
9700XT.

Of course their were 9700XT cards they just were not called XT, cards
with faster ram, that could get you maybe 15% mor overclock, thats all
the XT stands for anyway.

If there was no card *released* with the codename 9700XT then it didn't
exist. And apparently it didn't. Do you think that we (as a consumer)
should rename certain XP2500+ because some of them can overclock to 3200+.
What name do you surpose we give this chip? the XP2500+XT?

I bet it's a 9200SE or 9600SE....if you're lucky it's a 9600XT. If you're
really lucky it's a 9700. That would be a great deal.

I hope it is at least a 9600XT. Not that it matters to me much. I don't
play on his machine. But if it doesn't play Splinter Cell 2 and Beyond good
and evil well then I will be hearing about it. Nothing worse than listening
to someone moan who hasn't done their homework. I am now thinking that it
may even be a FX*5*700XT which will be disappointing.

No such thing as a 9700xt...

There is only the 9600xt and 9800xt.

But there could be confusion for a 5700xt... which should be a piece
of crap... price sounds about right... But these seem to go for
$90~120 new in the USA.

Remember: In the USA - it is dangeroud to draw or write about Heir Bush in a negative way. The police or SS are called, people threaten to kill you. (What country is this again?)

- 15yr old boy in Washington was disciplined for drawing such images.
- White House blows cover of an undercover agent because her husband said there were no WMD (before the USA started the war) - her job was finding terrorist. (This makes sense?)
God bless the land of the free. Where you can burn the Constitution... Ashcroft does it every day.

No, that is not "all the XT stands for anyway". The Radeon 9800 pre-XT uses
the R350 chip, the Radeon 9600 pre-XT uses the RV350 chip. The XTs use the
R360 and RV360 which are made with a different substrate and have different
performance characteristics including the ability to run at considerably
higher clock speeds, and in addition have on-chip temperature sensing.

The Radeon 9700 used the R300 chip--the next chip released was the the R350,
there was no process upgrade version of the 9700, so no "XT".

ability to run at considerably
higher clock speeds ???

Can overclock them more and a FEW tiny other changes, i stand by my
Statement becuase it's right :)
