Newegg is perhaps the most reputable of the online marketers.
They will not, like everyone else, be responsible for user error.
If you really did *melt* a webcam. you did something drastically wrong.

Newegg, like most online sellers, offers whatever you're
willing to buy. It's up to you to decide if the product is
usable for the purpose or not, but beyond that any product
will have a certain % failure rate and even moreso when
corners are cut to drive down the cost like poor QC.

If the webcam was so incredibly cheap it's not worth paying
$6 to return it, I think you got what you paid for.
Regardless, you are not telling the whole story if Newegg
refused to replace this or refund your money as I've dealt
with them many times and in the rare case where there was a
problem then made a better than average, reasonable effort
to rectify the situation.

Don't buy junk anywhere if you aren't willing to take the
gamble on what it is you'll be getting, but if you insist on
buying marginal products to try to save a buck, Newegg is a
better place to take that risk as they do offer better
replacement than most - in many cases you don't even need to
get an RMA authorized over the phone, you merely fill out
their online form and mail the product back.

If you had made a mistake in describing the problem
previously, you might still try contacting a different CSR
or filling out the online form and sending the product back.
If it looks "melted" as you put it, which seems very
questionable as your system might be wired wrong to cause
this, you might also drop a note in the box describing that
all you did is hook it up to a USB(?) port that was
demonstrated working with other devices, that this webcam is
the only variable.

Providing coaching in how to misrepresent the situation
so as to allow someone to defraud Newegg, there Kony?

Think about what it would take to "Melt" a USB device.
He would have to cross it with mains power somehow.

Y'know, it would really take some effort to melt a USB camera. Without
soldering some wires, etc, I doubt it can be done easily.

Makes one wonder about the OP.

I also have had dealings with Newegg and found them to be easy to deal with.

The only problem I've ever had with newegg was that that shipped one day
later than they said they would and the item reached me a day late.

I've been doing business with newegg for about four years and have
purchased maybe $25,000 from them averaging three purchases a month.

If we are to take the OP at his word, it is a defective
product and he is entitled to a refund. Whatever caused the
impression that Newegg would not give one is in error.

Describe the scenario that is both possible and reasonable
to suspect in causing that. For all we know the OP might be
a troll but if it did happen, it is doubtful such a fault
would have kept the system running ok otherwise unless it
was only the one USB port or the device itself at fault.

Newegg posts its return policy for every item advertised. You screwed
up by not reading the stated policy *before* you purchased the product.

Next time, do not stick that USB plug into the AC outlet.

I'm quite a complainer when it comes to bad merchants and merchandise,
but I've found NewEgg.com to be one of the most honest dealers out
there, and they have very good ratings at www.resellerratings.com
(before doing business the first time with a merchant, first check
there, not only the numerical ratings but also the comments).

Did the USB port you used with the webcam work normally with other
devices previously? This can be a concern especially with front-
mounted ports, which may be connected wrong to the motherboard, such
as with the +5V and ground mixed up, which can cause what you
described. If that happened, then neither NewEgg nor the manufacturer
would be responsible (although the product could have been designed to
withstand such a problem), and don't plug anything else into the port
until you correct the problem and fix any defect. It's possible that
even the cable inside the computer that connects the front USB ports
to the motherboard has shorted. Another possibility is that the
webcam shorted internally because its power and ground wires touched
one another (not difficult if they stuck out too far from the circuit
board), in which case they would be responsible.

If NewEgg won't help you, I suggest you file complaint with your
credit card company and mail it to the special billing problem address
(preserves certain legal rights if you do).

How does one "melt" a usb camera, and why is it newegg's fault? If
the camera was disfunctional, then newegg would most likely be
responsible, but "melting" a camera sounds like a product of your
stupidity.

Newegg isn't responsible directly, they only sell products
the manufacturer had guaranteed to work. However they are
liable to replace it, IF it had arrived defective.

My USB drive melted this morning in an internet cafe I go to all the
time. Unfortunately i didn`t notice it until I left, but it hasn`t
worked since and there`s a big bulge in it. Things can, it would
appear, melt. I`d had this drive for 9 months and used it daily
without problems and I`ve used the exact computer with other USB`s and
indeed the same one with no problems before.

There might be a difference between a new device and one
used awhile. After having been used, a poor design might
have broken circuit board traces, pulled surface mount
parts, etc. Given enough time even some tin whiskers might
grow beween leads and short it. For all we know you could
have an enemy that grabbed your drive when you weren't
looking and dunked it into your coffee, wiped off the
outside then plugged it back in to see what happens next.

I'd consider that Internet Cafes Comp. has some power supply fault and
I would go have words with them.
