Don't do it. You'll mess everything up so that Flash won't play
anywhere. At least that was my experience. And there's really no way
to uninstall it that I've found.

Works great for me, never had a problem with it.

No adware, cdware, commercial software, crippleware, demoware,
nagware, shareware, spyware, time-limited software, trialware, viruses
or warez please.

I prefer to use Proxomitron for blocking flash, but an extension called
Adblock will also allow permanent blocking of individual flash files.

***Mozilla users*** will be interested in the fact that there is now a new
***Mozilla extension uninstaller*** available from
http://jgillick.nettripper.com/extuninstaller/ . It will remove most
extensions, even ones added before the extension uninstaller was installed.

Full details about what it does are available in previous message posted to
this group which can be viewed at Google Groups (it is all one line - just a
very long link):

And I thought Flashblock was 2nd on your list of favorites John!! (see post of yours on 13th
July below)

Just a small but handy piece of advice:

Although warnings about potential or current software problems can be extremely useful, perhaps
it might be more prudent to initially post a query about whether anyone else has experienced the
same problem with that product.

That way it can be ascertained if it is an actual fault with the software, or if it is just
isolated to the one user.

Not that I use betas as a rule, but it's nice to know that there soon
will be a new version of this very usefull Mozilla extension.

http://prefbar.mozdev.org/

It's my favorite along with:

FlashBlock
Nuke Anything
Preferential
Sidebar Toggle

Art,
It works for me too, in that it does what it says about creating a
button on the page. However, even after trying to delete the
extension, shockwave files that I've saved to my hard drive won't open
correctly in Moz. All that happens is that instance after instance of
Mozilla begin, until I run out of resources.

The extension author himself actually says the following on the home
page at http://flashblock.mozdev.org/:

"HELP!!!!!

We need someone that has experience with programming mozilla
extensions on this project desperately. This project is only done in
my spare time and my experience with mozilla programming is very
limited. Please let me know if you would like to become a member of
this project or if you have come up with any improvements of your own
that you would like to see in the extension. see the Contact section.

We need someone who can do any of the following:

* Fix the various problems with the installer (userContent.css
overwrite problem).
* Create an uninstall app.
* Come up with some way of making flashblock read the mozilla
user preferences so a user controlled whitelist can be implemented
(there is a security limitation that currently prevents this).
* Fix firefox 0.9+ compatibility."

Well, at any rate, go ahead and try it yourself. You'll be sorry.

It's not "Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt". This extension drove me crazy too.
I used the mozillazine post someone linked to in this thread and I finally
managed to get rid of it. Adblock is *much* better at blocking flash.

Thank you, I have.

It works perfectly. I can choose to see them, or turn them off. Not all are
ads, and many can be amusing and entertaining.

So, you see, I'm not at all sorry. :-)

Cheers,

Roy

Well, I'm glad it works for you Roy. Really. It gave me all kinds of
troubles so I removed it thanks to jason's link. Now I seem to have
everything working again. In fact, now I can view the .swf at this
site easily:

http://www.jibjab.com/

That's the one that was giving me trouble. I will instead use the
"Kill Flash" button on the Prefbar extension instead.

Ah, that one. It's fame has even reached over the "big pond"; a national
private TV station here made a feature about the current voting campaign
in the US, and the opinions of the citizens in various states, and
showed some snippets of the Jib Jab flashes, too.

Funny you should mention that site. I needed flash to view it too (and
firefox is my main browser) What I did was download k-meleon and load
flash into it. That way I got to view the cartoon, without
contaminating my main browser

I find things like flash pernicious. Once in, you are stuck with their
trash. I'm sure with effort I could tame it, but it is sooo much
easier to just avoid the problem
