A reinforcement for backups OR did I miss something.
Re-settingup domain login etc on XPPro to WIN 2003 server.
During setup used admin logon, when prompted added logoin for existing user
of PC (bad mistake).
All OK
Logon as user, start Outlook to check it is working.
Setup Wizard fires, no warning, no choice, just immediately deleted existing
pst. Lost all e-mails since last backup.
Hope this helps someone in future.

Did outlook make a new pst? It shouldn't if you are upgrading or
reinstalling. The usual cause of a 'missing' pst is a new user account
resulting in the old pst in a different set of folders.

Enable the advanced option for searching all hidden files and folders and
system files and search for pst.

Outlook created a new pst in the same folder as the live pst resided this
overwriting it.
I think if I had NOT created a new logon for an existing user it would have
left the old pst in place.
