AntiSpyware refuses to get updates, either automatically
or manually. I'm connected via cable modem, and all other
programs access the internet just fine, including e-mail,
IE, and updates for Norton, AdAware SE Pro, and Spyware
Begone.

Do you have a software firewall installed which needs information about
programs allowed to access the Internet?

The information needed for Microsoft Antispyware can be found in the help
files--search on firewall ports.

You might want to read the listing for Spyware Begone in the article at this
URL:

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

The only "firewall" (well, sort of) I'm running is XP
SP2's. I'd have thought two MS products would play nice
together.

I also tried disabling both Ad-Aware and Spyware Begone,
plus running in safe mode. No change in behavior.

Contrary to what is included in the help, neither the XP firewall (pre sp2)
nor the WIndows firewall (Sp2) should interfere with updating.

Do you have anything set in the Internet Explorer proxy settings?

I'd recommend the usual--add or remove programs, microsoft antispyware,
change, update.

Download the newer .509 build if you have not already.

Not using any proxy settings, have tried torning off
all "security" (just for testing, then restored, natch),
and still get same result.

I am running the 509 beta.

Looks like this is a dud from Micrtosoft, at least for
now.
