This is just a warning about the latest AOL disk that is mailed out. Just
inserting the disk to see what is on it will install the communications
programs. They have to be removed with the control panel add/remove
programs. They tempt you by stating that there are free games on the CD but
you can't get to them without installing part of AOL. This is the first time
that I have ever seen a legitimate company install something without a
warning.

Nobody in their right mind would insert an AOL disk just "to see what is on
it".

And many of us would stop that sentence after the first ten words.

Is there a way to insert a disk and not have it run any autoexec files?
There may be other disks that I may not trust and may want to look at before
running anything.

Hold down the Ctrl key when you insert the CD.

Thanks for sharing your experience; hopefully at least one person
will read it and take heed.

But 28.4 grams of prevention are worth 454 grams of cure...

This is one reason I disabled autoplay, and I recommend the same
action to everyone.

Yes, you can prevent autoplay when inserting a particular disk, by
pressing and holding Shift till the disk comes up in Explorer -- but
who remembers that every single time?

I stopped reading after the first five as the sentence obviously doesn't
apply to yours truly...
