Odie Ferrous

Does anyone have something like this? I've been on the Microsoft site,
but the only link to something that looks like the guide is a bloody
book that has to be purchased!

Hope you can help. (My 14 year old daughter needs to be able to
understand it!)

Thanks to all who have replied. However, I STILL cannot find a simple,
step-by-step guide.

All the guides assume you need to share internet access (I have a hub)
and take a really long-winded way around things.

I mean, FFS - you wouldn't believe I've been involved with computers
for 16 years!!!! Windows 2000 was an absolute doddle - stick the IP
address in and there you go!!!! Amd here I am expecting my son and
daughter to do my work!

Actually with windows XP, it works the same way as Windows 2000 if you don't
use wizards that complicate it. Just make the workgroups the same name, make
sure TCP/IP is installed, put in the IP addresses and your set.

?
This is the best site to explain all this, step by step.

http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_filesharing/index.htm

I think that site, by Ron Lowe and me, is probably more complicated
than Odie is looking for. It shows how to set up advanced file
sharing features like access control lists.

Just run XP's Network Setup Wizard on both computers. Choose the
right connection option, and it will automatically configure all of
the network settings and set up file and printer sharing. If you need
to share more than just the "Shared Documents" folder on each
computer, right click and share the desired folder(s).

I figured that he uses a hub to connect his computers, has been using
computers for 16 years, used networking in Win2000 ...

The source of my frustrations was the default "simple file sharing" in
XPPro. Disable that and you have similar setup as in Win2000.

Thanks for your pages on practicallynetworked site.

There is a network setup guide on the ms.com website. Also many books are
also available "home networking step by step" ..etc
