My Deja

I am looking for image processing software that scan specified
coordinates in an image and extract the textual information. A
programming API type will be preferred, to allow further processing.

Any info?

Caere Omnipage, Expervision TypeReader, and Abbyy FineReader all have
development SDKs for their OCR engines available on their websites.
Bindings are in C or C++, Visual Baysick, maybe Java by now if you're
daft enough to want to use Java for something like this. The SDKs cost
money, of course.

It's possible to control TypeReader 6 with DDE, but DDE is a pain and
the full functionality of TypeReader is not available via DDE. OTOH, no
SDK is required to use DDE. Contact me via e-mail if you'd like to hear
more about that; mind the SPAN TRAP. HTH,

You can also convert the document using Graphic Converter into any
graphic format you like, TIFF should work OK with an OCR package.
