Wanted for desktop

I would like to have a BIG (red?) icon on my desktop to remind me that I am
still online when I leave my computer, so that I can disconnect.

Probably you should set your connection to be disconnect when in idle.

Good suggestion except, when I am online, I have my email client set to
check every 5 minutes and I don't want to disconnect sooner than that.

You could set ActiveSaver - there are still freeware builds about - to
be your screensaver, running a shutdown app such as AMP Winoff.

AMP Winoff will put a countdown on your desktop before it does what it
is asked - Shut down, hang up modem, whatever...

Sorry I came into the middle of the thread but I've gone back to my
old ISP since Sprint landlines can now provide high speed here in Cda,
but it'll be a while before I go back to broadband as I don't have a
credit card so I'm saving up for 6 months of high speed feeds. In the
meantime, have gone back to dialup and so I pulled Tick out of
mothballs to use again. You can set it to disconnect after so many
idle minutes.

Tick was shareware at one point but then it went freeware and that's
waht I have, v1.05. I just went to the website (they're still there
<g>) http://www.reallyeffective.co.uk/tick_moreinformation.html but I
can't see if it's still freeware or not.

Thanks Fitwell, but it's all too much.
All I want is a BIG sign/marker/logo that I only see when I return to my
desktop before going to the pub or to watch a tv programme etc.
I have one on the inside of my front door saying "Have you got your keys?"
That's what 'getting on a bit' does for you. :o)

I guess I misunderstood (?). Tick gives me a tiny window which I
chose to have running time showing on it (i.e., Tick is showing that
I've been online this afternoon for 1:44:51 (with those seconds
counting down, of course). I have it set to disconnect at 10 minutes
of idle online activity). Sorry if that isn't what you needed.
Perhaps someone else can suggest something better. Good luck!
