When I got my new computer and XP HE there was messenger that I
wrongly thought was something else.

I disable it in some way but don't remember how.

Today updated to 4.7 and got back an icon.
Went back to services and enable messenger
But when I click on this messenger icon nothing appends.

What should I look for?

Greetings Den,

The "Messenger" option in Services is *not* Windows Messenger, that is the "Messenger
Service" which has absolutely nothing to do with Windows Messenger.

Instead, download and run these .reg files:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablewindowsmessenger_user.reg
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablemessenger.reg
Then reboot, and then you should be able to use Windows Messenger.

Thanks a lot for your help Jonathan

Could you tell me if the directory (c:\program files\messenger) is
related to windows messenger?

go into contral Panel, add/remove programs, Add/remove
Windows Components(on the left), scroll down and put a
check on Windows Messanger, restart your pc, you should
find it in the programs list.
