Want to Remove "safely remove hardware" icon from system tray

I recently switched my broadband connection from ethernet to USB. Everything
works great except I have the subject icon in my tray which points to
removing my cable modem. Obviously I don't want to remove the modem, but how
cand I get rid of the icon from my system tray? Any help would be
appreciated.

Hide it. Right-click an open area of the taskbar|PROPERTIES|CUSTOMIZE.
