i'm trying to get a startech cbusb220 usb 2.0 cardbus adaptor to work in a
thinkpad t21 running xp home sp2. i've done a fresh install of winsdows. the
system detects the adaptor and some devices work when plugged into it but
some don't. i've gotten an ide enclosure to work at 2.0 speeds (using chkdsk
as a benchmark) but when i try it with a sata enclosure i get the message
"usb device not recognized". i also tried a cuzer micro flash drive and got
the same error. i've tried these devices in other computers and they work
fine. any ideas? thanks.

Is the USB adaptor supplying enough power to the connected devices? Does
it come with an external power supply you can use to supplement its
output?

I'd look for drivers for XP from both device manufacturers.

Make sure you've installed all driver updates from IBM/Lenovo. Also
check for possible BIOS upgrades from the same source.

You probably have a power issue. The USB ports on most PC Cards cannot
supply power to USB devices. They cannot supply ANY power, in many
cases. So if you are using it with a USB device that expects to get
it's power from the USB port, it won't work.

i think power is the issue. i ended up returning it. i decided to bite the
bullet and get a new laptop with better ports. thanks for the feedback.
