I'm looking for something to replace WMP and realtime and all that crap.
Something light and stable that will play audio and video no matter what
format.

I've been to the pricelessware site, but I can't tell if CDex is what I'm
looking for. Suggestions?

Real Alternative.

A good solid alternative to WMP, Real & Quicktime on Windows

CDex is a cd ripper / audio file converter.

What I have installed is MPC + additional codecs.
Media Player Classic (DVD, Mpeg, installed windows codecs
and the below formats)
Real Alternative (real codecs)
Quicktime Alternative (quicktime codecs)
FFDshow (mpeg4 codecs)
ac3filter (audio codecs)

plus
Video Lan Client (everything except 'Real files' player)

I like XM Player for MP3, and Media Player Classic for AVI, MPG, OGM,
QuickTime, and Real.

Winamp?
(the last 2.95 versions - do not download Winamp 3 or 5, it's slow and breaks
plugin compatibility). Those can be found at www.oldversion.com .
