wanna buy decent ati card

But what do i go for?

I play such games as:-

HL"
UT2k4
Far cry
NFS Underground 2

What card should i buy. Want to limit money if i can, but if it costs a bit
extra to get a card that will be much more better, then i will buy it.

I am thinking of a x800 pro, that can be upgraded to use 16 pipelines.
(x800xt).

Is this the best option at the moment, as i find at the moment the x800 XT
PE is a bit too far out of reach in price.

Your best choice would be the X800XL that will cost 299$.The card has
16PPs and it's clocks are similar to the X800PRO.
The only problem is that you'll have to wait until late Feb./March
to get it in AGP form factor.
 
umm, i sort of want the card soon.

I do have a 9800 pro, but playing nfs undergound 2 with full settings, i
have to limit the resolution to 800x600, which is crap!

What system you using? I ask because I have a 9600xt (128mb) and run nfsu2
at 1024x768 with everything turned on without any problems. Not tried
anything higher as things look good for me at those res'.

My system is a P4 2.8e with 1GB ram using omega drivers.

I would think that you should get better performance than you are. Try
tweaking your settings before buying a new card. Unless the money is just
burning a hole in your pocket :)

I'm not sure if NFSU 2 has the same settings as the first one but you might
want to check to see if these two settings are in the game and turned on.
These are "Motion Blur" and "Trails". Theses settings totally crippled NFSU.
Turn them off and see if you don't get a huge performance increase. I have
the 9800Pro and a 2.2GHz P4 and with those settings turned on with NFSU the
game crawled at 1024x768. With them off I'm able to run the game at 1024x768
wit everything maxed and with 4xAA & 4xAF. JLC
