Wander mouse cursor

The cursor for my mouse / touchpad (Dell Inspiron
laptop / Windows 2000) wanders (slowly) across the
screen, under its own steam....

FWIW saw that in IBM Thinkpads some years ago. In that case IBM
provided updated TrackPoint drivers to cure it. Check the vendor?
