I want some. I'm a little bored looking at the standard desktop wallpaper in Linux Mint and want something different.

There aren't many wallpapers I take a shine too but when I like one I usually keep it for a long time.

I've been scouring t' web and haven't found much that appeals to me, just a load of supressed popups and some truly dire advertising, mostly.

So if any of you good folk have links to some good stuff I'd be mighty obliged for you to supply them here.

Would prefer something Linux based that isn't neccessarily slagging of Microsoft but open to suggestions.

At the moment I have just Mint installed but I do have one spare 160Gb hard disk/caddy that I could install another distro on.

Here's a reminder of what I have on my four Windows OS's:

Main computer Shinybeast, Windows 7 Home Premium:

Secondary computer, Andromeda, Windows XP Premium (this has changed since then, now only the recycle bin icon is on the desktop, no others):

Media machine, Win Vista Home Premium:

Atares, messing about machine, showing Win 98:

Uh... so many possible sources.

If you have time and beer, go through a few pages of this list:
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/search/label/wallpapers

I picked one from the list:
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/03/awesome-wallpapers-of-pr09studio.html
You’ll also find plenty of other distro-specific wallpapers on his deviant art including Arch, Mint and KDE branded ones.
P.S. OMG! Ubuntu page [what a silly name!] does have a lot of interesting applications and eye candy stuff reviewed. Worth a read. Or two.

Sorry, nowt there at those sites inspired me and I did spend some considerable time browsing (in between playing Forza Motorsport III on the Xbox - superb game).

When it comes to desktops I must confess I'm hard to please.

Some time ago our man in the northern wastelands with the Viking fixation sent me several hundred and I'm afraid not one of them appealed to me :o

Right now I'm considering pics of a coastal town in Southern France; a row of beach huts in Scarborough and several pix I took myself but none of them really grabs me by the undercarriage, so to speak.

I am on a quest, on a mission, even. I just know when I like something, it's instant, and over the years very few have appealed to me.

My choices for Windows displayed above may not be everybody's cup of organically produced infused beverage but I like them a lot.

Right. In that case, uncle Urmas' next recommendation is this site:

http://warchild13.com/index.html

That's the front page... you can browse the archives... or (this is one huuuuuge page):
http://warchild13.com/just_about_me/booksmovies/

Be warned: takes a bit of time to go through that one. But maybe – just maybe – these say "click".

...And just in case your quest is still on-going after Urmas's offerings (some good ones on there Urmas.) Here are a couple more suggestions:

40 cool penguins (and most are not slagging Windows.)
http://www.bablotech.com/2009/01/05/40-cool-linux-wallpapers/

Frogs - just because I remembered you quite like them ;)
http://www.thewallpapers.org/animals/frogs.php

Some unusual/weird pics here, but you'll need to hit the "translate this page" button (if you have Google toolbar)

Good hunting :D

Woohoo! Now we're cooking with gas :D

Have bookmarked all of those, have had a brief look and there will definitely be a few there.

So far I like the frogs - the mostly green pix suit Mint's Green theme - the Linux penguins and from Urmas' link have already downloaded Audrey Hepburn, Emily and that one of the dark staircase leading to a castle ('untitled').

Good stuff :thumb:

Hmm, I dunno, I've tried loads but nothing has slapped me hard, so to speak, just yet.

For the time being, I'm using this one, but still looking:
