Waiting for Updates: A reflection.
It always occurs to me when people talk about waiting for the "shield" to
pop up:
Microsoft does not call "you", "You" call Microsoft [via AU/WU/MU].
How often do you think AU phones home?
How often, once you thought about it, would you "want" AU to phone home???
Once a day, 4 times a day, 8 times a day, once an hour???
If it only checks a few times a day it makes since that there would be a gap
between when people get it.
I know there are other factors in play [load distribution and the like] but
I'd rather hit the check for updates button a few times on Tuesdays and
Thursday afternoons, before 5:00, and get is over with. That's what I did
when I posted the link. I Wanted to get the link up for folks before they
went home for the day. On the days I did it the updates always seemed to be
available by 4:30 Chicago time.
So anyone know the answer? How often does AU check for updates in a day?
[Factors being taken into account, Computer on 24hrs, constant Internet
access]
?
