I was going to buy a DVD program but since reading some
of your answers I'm thinking maybe I'll wait. Are you
saying if we wait till 4004 they will have DVDs that will
play our CDs that we make on our computers?
Do the DVD programs make the videos any better?
And why on earth won't Windows come-up with an add on DVD
program. That would solve alot of headachs!
I know you say to go to your web site but could you give
us a short answer here?
and you never did say why my movies got all mixed-up.
Thanks, Lorie

My personal experience with burning DVDs is good. The Sonic MyDVD software
that came on my new laptop worked great with movies from Movie Maker 2
(either WMV or DV-AVI formats).

4004 and is a bit too long to wait. ) Next year should see players that will
support the WMV files and HighMAT menu structure. But, there's no reason to
wait if you want to burn and play DVDs today.

The MyDVD software is easier to use than Movie Maker. I don't see the
difference between using it versus another piece of software from Microsoft.
It wouldn't necessarily work any differently or better.

And your files being all mixed up. I said that you were in the driver's
seat in Movie Maker, to arrange the clips the way you want them to be. If
you put them on the timeline one way and Movie Maker changed them on you,
that might be another issue. If that's the case, please describe in more
detail what you mean when you said '... the computer decided to put the last
film I recorded 1st, the 1st film I recorded last and so on....'

Lorie,

Are the files out of order when you look at them on the hard drive before
importing, in the collection tree or collections after importing, or on the
storyboard/timeline of your project?

Microsoft doesn't (currently) supply DVD creation software with Windows
because they are pushing they own video format (WMV - Windows Media Video)
as an alternative to MPEG2 used by DVDs.

Yes, it makes things far more complicated than it would have to be. Waiting
(and it could be longer than 2004) for a DVD player with HighMAT/video
playback is OK for your own personal use, but keep in mind that there are
already A LOT of DVD players out there; none of those will ever be able to
playback the HighMAT CDs/DVDs. There is also speculation that Microsoft may
support some kind of DVD creation in the next version of Windows code-named
"Longhorn", rumored to ship late summer 2005.

Even if you want and pay a premium for a high-end Panasonic DVD player that
can play WMV videos, don't forget that you won't be able to share your
videos with any of your friends or family that have "ordinary" DVD players.

If you want to view your videos on your DVD player, just forget about WMV
altogether, and concentrate on the tools that will create VCDs and DVDs
that play in todays DVD players. MM2 can be part of your "toolbox", but
you'll have to suppliment it with some additional tools.
