After recently rolling out several XP pro boxes on a 2000 based AD
domain, we are experiencing several difficulties with regards to the
asynchronous login style of XP...

When reading up on some possible solutions, I've found the logon
policy to wait for the network before login to force the more
synchronous login style of 2000. However, I have noticed that looking
to making this change in group policy, there is no policy in Windows
2000 AD that allows you to set this up as a group policy. Is there
anything short of upgrading the DC to XP to solve this problem?? Or
have I just totally over looked the policy all together?? Any help
would be greatly appreciated!!

it is there, it is buried! Edit the GPO and look under:
Computer Configuration|Administrative Templates|System|Logon, then there
will be a setting for "Always wait for the network...". You will disable
this to get your desired response.

You need to modify the Windows 2000 Group Policy with the new
settings for Windows XP. This article shows how to make the
modification:

The following artilce shows that the correct Group Policy setting is:

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\ Always
wait for the network at computer startup and logon

After following these directions, I am still unable to see the policy
object related to "wait for network"?? Any ideas??

Ray,

The absolute easy way is to just edit GPOs with an XP box. This will show
all GPOs, even the one youa re looking for in the location I mention above.

The only way I can see it NOT working, is if the ADM templates that you have
on your 2000 servers are newer than what is on the XP box. Which, will
happen if you have the latest SP installed on the 2000 box. Ideally, just
copy the ADM templates from the XP box and paste them over the 2000 ADM
templates. If you need help with this, please let me know.
